We Need To Talk About Miley

Ok. Let’s talk about Miley Cyrus.

Up until yesterday, whenever someone said the name “Miley Cyrus” I instantly thought about Hanna Montana. She’s the little girl that sing and dance with the Disney logo behind her, right?

Well, I’m not so sure Disney ever thought Miley Cyrus would perform wearing almost nothing, touching her and Robin Thicke’s crotch in this year’s VMAs.

we need to talk about miley

It’s not that I’m a prude thinking that the little girl Miley Cyrus once was, should stay the same forever. I used to admire Madonna for her courage and rebellious way when she got on stage wearing white wedding dress that covers nothing. This is the same thing. A bold girl trying to break free from her childish image.
Growing up is a natural thing and Miley Cyrus should behave differently from how she behaved when she was thirteen. Even so, there are many ways to show adulthood that doesn't involve getting almost naked on stage, making horrible gestures to the camera, when young fans are watching.

I guess that being a superstar today doesn't work very well when you’re fully dressed. Britney Spears was once a victim of that problem. From being the eternal virgin she transformed herself into being a sex symbol. It worked so well for her. She even got to keep her sanity…

Miley Cyrus started walking a new path, the adulthood path. For us that means working to support yourself and paying your bills. For Miley Cyrus, who've been working her entire life and made a lot of money, being adult means getting undressed. The only thing that is left for us is to hope for the best for the new and adult Miley Cyrus and cover our young kid’s eyes.

Metallica -Sad But True

For my 12th birthday, I got my first CD player. One quick glance at it, and I knew – life won’t be the same from now on.

Equipped by my weekly allowance, I entered the local music store. As a 12 year old growing up in the 90’s, the choice was between the Backstreet Boys and Metallica. Looking back on that moment, I can say it was probably a life changing decision. Ten long minutes later, it was made. I’m a young Metallica fan.

From that point on, Metallica stuck with me through thick and thin. Walking around school as a geeky seven grader was hard enough, even without those earphones plugged regularly to my ears, wearing my black Metallica shirts. Being a seven grader who likes Metallica was a social disaster.

Later on, Metallica’s songs became my high school soundtrack. Riding on my bike to school with Sad but True, doing my homework to the sounds of Muster of Puppets, and falling asleep while listening to Sandman.
And as young girl, my lifelong dream was to attend a Metallica live concert. I used to replay the Metallica S&M concert video and long for that mind blowing adrenaline rush as the orchestra starts to play the intro of One, while Metallica joins in. I used to envy all those people in the crowd, screaming “Metallica” at the top of their lungs, standing only a few feet away from the greatest band in the world.

In 2010, it was finally my turn. I bought my ticket for the Metallica Magnetic tour. I got to watch the famous flames burst on stage, got to scream the lyrics and got to shed a tear of joy.
A Metallica fan’s wish came true.

My story with Metallica hasn't ended yet. It’s a story of a very long term, committed relationship. I no longer own a CD player, but even today, I always make sure Metallica is a part of my playlist. For the sack of all those moments in life, when you want to listen to that special something that makes you feel right at home, that makes you feel just like yourself, like a young girl discovering Metallica.

Getting Older with Depeche Mode

When Depeche Mode announced going on “sounds of the universe” tour in 2009, there was no doubt I’m going to be there. We started arranging the show day like a military operation- Ways to get the stadium, the right amount of water to carry, who stands where, and how to keep others from getting to the stage before us.

We arrived the stadium at 5:00 pm, ran like crazies to the stage, stood there and held the stage with our hands so that no one takes our place. It was a hot summer day, and we were dangerously excited and super determined not to let that poor stage go.
Just six hours and some pretty harsh wounds later, Depeche Mode got on stage. We did it! We’re at the first row! Dave Gahan is right next to me, dancing on the cat walk with arms wide open.
When you like a band, sitting at home listening to their albums is nice. Standing in a stadium, at the first row, looking back on 30,000 people waving their arm to the sounds of “never let me down again” is a surreal experience.

The show was over, and we had to say our goodbyes to Depeche mode. I could barely walk, let alone stand. I couldn't talk, and my face were all red and puffy from screaming and crying at the same time.
Three months ago, Depeche Mode came back to stage with “Delta Machine” tour. This time I bought the ticket and just drove to the park where the show took place. I wasn't holding any stage parts what so ever. I just sat on the grass, sipping really expensive beer, talking quietly to people around me.
When Depeche Mode came on stage, the only way I could watch Dave Gahan this time was from the huge screens on the side of the stage, and this time I was whispering the lyrics, but just because I was the only one who knew it around the people I stood with.

There’s no doubt, time has its own way on people. It’s probably called getting old. I've been to two Depeche Mode concerts, and they were such extremely different experiences. Depeche Mode was there, their most favorite songs were played, and 30,000 people still waved their hands to the tunes of “never let me down again”. The only thing that was different was me. Still a fan, still waving my hands, but a bit older.

Lady Gaga's Back!

Lady Gaga released her new single “Applause” just a few days ago and she’s everywhere!!

Seriously. Wherever I go, whatever I do, Lady Gaga is there. And in most cases she’s either not wearing a lot, or looking totally insane. So yes, I’m disappointed.

Let’s talk about Lady Gaga for a moment. I used to like her. I really did. Lady Gaga brought something different with her, she was bold, young and fresh. It was like Madonna went younger and a lot crazier. I liked her talking about her early childhood, being the weird girl, getting bullied at school. I liked her being so diverse, so unique!

Lady gaga produced some really good classical pop hits, and together with her free spirit and stylish image, she left me and her audience wanting more.

So, Lady Gaga took a break and now she’s back. It’s been just a few days and she’s already being accused of stealing parts of Madonna song “Girl Gone Wild”, she’s preforming live wearing bikini thong and nothing more, she got in trouble with Perez Hilton, and I’m asking …why??

The new album is not even out yet, and already, we’re under a massive attack by Lady Gaga’s unleashed personality.

I understand, all of this drama makes me and everyone else on the web talk about it. It sure is working well for her, But maybe it’s time to let Lady Gaga know that less is sometimes more and it just might be a bit too much even for the wild Lady Gaga.

Lana My Love

Last summer the radio started playing something different. The melody was rich and slow, the voice was low and deep. After a few times I started to hear the name Lana Del Rey. My searches after Lana Del Rey brought up a beautiful face of a woman that seemed a bit unusual. I wanted to know more about her.

Lana Del Rey was born in 1986 as Elizabeth Woolridge Grant in New York. At 14, she was sent away to boarding school to deal with her alcohol addiction. When listening to Lana Del Rey song lyrics you can spot the difficulty, the struggle that belongs to a troubled girl.

When listening to Lana Del Rey, you feel there’s more to the lyrics than just a fun young love story. Lana Del Rey gave an interview to GQ Magazine in 2012 saying that she thought drinking at 14 was about discovering her dark side. Lana Del Rey’s music and the way she sings, wraps her audience in her darkness. The thing is, I’m a darkness addict. So, Lana Del Rey is working pretty well for me…
I guess that I’m looking for a bit of a gloomy side in everything, mainly in music. When I was 14, I wasn’t an alcohol addict like Lana Del Rey (thank god), but I sure went through some pretty rough things. That was also about the time when music started playing a big role in my life. It’s been over a decade since those days, but whenever my ear identifies that darkness in a tune, it’s still brings me back.

Lana Del Rey is a beautiful singer, singing about love and boys. It would be extremely easy to be mistaken and think of Lana Del Rey as one of those girly music artists. Lana Del Rey is not that bubbly fun girl to listen to in a slumber party, she brings pain and depth to her music, and she’s doing it right.
